Review: Powerless by Tera Lynn Childs and Tracy Deebs

Powerless (The Hero Agenda, #1)Powerless by Tera Lynn Childs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have been itching to read a superhero book, so I was stoked to have Powerless on hand to dive into. I have read a couple of books by Tracy before and loved her world building, so I just knew I would love this story as well. I was so right! I read this book in one day. I was so into it I just did not want to put it down! It is a fast and super fun read and I really enjoyed the characters. The heroine Kenna is spunky, smart, and has a hilarious inner dialogue. I love that although she is powerless she refuses to be helpless. I knew Kenna was in trouble as soon as Draven came into the picture. I mean who wouldn't fall for tall, dark, and dreamy that gives you chocolate! He's every girls dream, the bad boy with a good heart * insert dreamy sigh here *. Their chemistry and witty banter had me all swoony and giddy, smiling behind the pages. I also really like the book's overall message too that not every hero is good and not every villain is bad. Everyone is capable of choosing who they are and what their actions will say about them. Powerless is the first book in a new series that I can't wait to continue! That ending has me so anxious to get my hands on the next book!

EXCERPT:

The issue wasn’t not wanting him—it was wanting him too badly. With too many questions building like the heat through her body, she flipped over. “What do you want?”
Without a word, he took her into his arms.
“What are you doing?” Though she didn’t resist, she put one hand on his chest in a sad mock show of defiance, but she gained the opportunity to take in his smooth, tight skin.
“Answering your question. I want to hold my lady in bed.” He pulled her closer.
“Your lady?” What did he mean? His arms suffocated her, but she couldn’t leave. Instead she gasped for air.
“Yes.” He rubbed her back. “In case you’re wondering, in my definition of the word, it’s not an English title.”
She refused to react, refused to acknowledge how her stomach fluttered, refused to take in the scent of his soap. “What do you want, Logan?”
“For someone with enough smarts to earn multiple degrees, I thought I made my intentions very clear.” His breath brushed against her lips. “I want you.”
“Logan.” Unsure if she wanted to slap him or grab him, she opted for feeling his chest again. How could he want her? “When you were a teenager, what did you want?”
“A motocross bike and a naughty magazine.” He let out a laugh.
“You don’t understand.” She shook her head.
“Yes, I do. What I’m trying to tell you is the boy that wanted a bike and naked pictures is not the same man who met a woman and now wants her.” He moved her bangs off her forehead. “The girl who saw a character in a movie and had a crush is not the same as the woman who met a man years later.”
Could she let go and be with him and not worry every time he wasn’t in her sight? “What’s your fantasy, Logan?” All her cards were faceup on the table. He knew everything, and they needed to even the odds.
“Not Erin, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“Logan.”
“I want to kiss you until neither of us can breathe, and then I want to take my time and explore every inch of you until you’re writhing beneath me. Then, I want to make love to you until you have no choice but to dig your nails into my back and scream.” He took her chin in his hand.

review: Water so Deep by Nichole Giles

This is one of those books that's a little hard for me to review because I have mixed feelings about it. So why the four star rating you wonder. Well because I asked myself if I really enjoyed the story as whole and the answer is yes. I love mermaids and I think this story had a unique twist with us getting to watch this girl slowly transition into one against her will. I can only imagine how scary that would be including the creepy merman trying to claim you as his own! Am I anxious to read the next book of this series? Super yes! I zipped through this one so fast and immediately wanted more. Really I only have two minor problems with the book. 1- Emma seemed to have never tried very hard to find a solution to her problem. 2- That cliffhanger ending! Which in itself isn't my only issue with the ending. My biggest thing was that we only get to hear the ending from one p.o.v. and the missing one seemed to be the one I would most want to know. Assuming that will be resolved in the next book though has me excited to continue this story.

Review : Cold Burn Of Magic by Jennifer Estep

Cold Burn of Magic (Black Blade #1)

I previously read and was a huge fan of Estep's YA - Mythos Academy Series. So I went into this book with high hopes and high expectations... and I must say I was not let down. The lead of the story, young heroine Lila Merriweather, is snarky, kick-butt, and fun. She's not all rough edges though. Lila was orphaned after her mother was murdered and she has a definite sentiment to her that makes her hardshell all the more appealing. Devon of course is my new book crush. He's so good, yet strong. There's no love triangle, he's not a jerk, he is just... amazing! I absolutely loved the attraction between him and Lila. I can't wait to see where their relationship goes from here! The other characters in the book were just as enjoyable and I loved how distinct each of their personalities were regardless of how few scenes they appeared. As if that wasn't enough to make me love it, there's also the amazing world creation in this book. I love the concept of magical families, feuds, and monsters lurking everywhere! There are so many unique and intricate details throughout the story that just amaze me. Something that seems to be a natural talent for Ms. Jennifer Estep. So far every book I have read of hers has been fabulous! She has become one of those authors that when I see her name on a book, I'm going to get it! This was such a quick, fun, action-packed read, and I am really looking forward to getting my hands on the next book.

review : If I Fall, If I Die

If I Fall, If I Die
When I saw this title, I was instantly intrigued. As someone who's life has been personally affected by anxiety, I knew I had to read this book! I was expecting the book to be solely about Diane's agoraphobia and it's effect on her and Will's lives. What I found was even better than what I expected! If I Fall, If I Die is a beautifully poignant story with intricately woven layers of a deeply resonating tale of fear, hope, loss, friendship, parenthood, and much more. I really enjoyed Will's inner voice and his slightly askew view of the world was delightfully witty and fun. I was surprised that I could totally relate with not only the mom and her fears for her child, but also with Will as he fought the inner battle of protecting his mother as well as breaking away from her overprotection. Another very enjoyable aspect of the book was the names that Will and/or his mother came up with for various things. I mean what mother doesn't think all of her child's creations are masterpieces? The backstory for how Will named his mom's anxiety stricken moments " The Black Lagoon " was priceless and very entertaining. Overall I would say this one is a winner! Although it deals with some dark issues and has some suspenseful moments it also has enough wit and humor to keep it from being a depressing read.                                                                                                                                                                         * I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review *
