Review: Any Other Girl

Any Other Girl

Any Other Girl by Rebecca Phillips
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Review:

This was a great coming of age contemporary! I previously read Rebecca Phillips' "Faking Perfect" and really liked her writing voice, so I was happy to get a chance to read another book written by her. Any Other Girl was written in much that same fun fresh voice that I loved in Faking Perfect and had the same overall good flow. I loved that it was very realistic and had just the right amount of conflict without being overly angsty. Kat was an easy character for me to understand and although she didn't always make the best choices ( I mean who did at that age? ) I thought she was relatable and dealt with things a lot of girls her age have. I know that she was trying really hard to deny her feelings to save her cousins feelings and to also prove to herself that she could resist flirting with someone else's crush. It was sad though because you could tell that there was definitely good chemistry between her and Emmett and that it just wasn't going to happen for him and Harper. Kat was really sweet trying to get them together to make her cousin happy despite her own desires. I know others have said they didn't like that she was so invested in her looks, but a lot of girls that age are and the fact that she had gotten that way from trying to prove she was feminine despite her being raised by two fathers made me empathize with her. Overall I really enjoyed Any Other Girl and hope to read more of Ms. Phillips writing in the future. I would absolutely recommend this to lovers of realistic YA romantic coming of age novels.

Review: Conspiracy Boy

Angel Academy Book 1: Prophecy Girl
Angel Academy Book 2: Conspiracy Boy

My Review

Conspiracy Boy is spellbinding! I am really glad that I already had this second book in the series after finishing book one Prophecy Girl, because I just had to know what was going to happen. If anything I think I may have enjoyed Conspiracy Boy even more so than the first book. It's got great humor and wit with a fast pace that kept me thoroughly engrossed from beginning to end. There were definitely some twists that I didn't see coming, including my new found feelings for Luc. He really won me over in this one and I really really hope that things are not as they seem with him now that book two is over. That sounded really cryptic right? Sorry didn't want to give any spoilers :-) But anyhow I really like this series and am really hoping for another book. I think if your a fan of young adult urban fantasy with angels, demons, prophecies, and other cool stuff that you should definitely try out this series.  ( I highly recommend reading these in order )

My Review

The French Kiss For Hire episodes are quick and light-hearted and perfect for me to read in a book funk to help purge those
major book hangovers.

I do really enjoy Luc's character. He's such a sweet charming young man and just makes me smile with his polite manners and good heart. I know that these episodes are short and sweet, which I do like, but I really feel that I have not got to know Serena enough yet. Luc has definitely won my heart, now I want to know why Serena has won his. Ben and Madison are also great characters that I have come to like. Ben is fun and quirky and Madison definitely has something she's hiding under that spoiled girl she pretends to be. Overall I am really intrigued with the story and hope that I get to find out more about Serena in the following episodes and get to really know who she is and feel that spark between her and Luc. This episode did give me hope that she reciprocates Luc's feelings and that really has me anxious to see where this goes.

My Review:

I was utterly charmed by Luc in the first episode of French Kiss for Hire. Now in this second installment Luc is still trying to deal with his feelings for Serena which have only become more apparent after their kiss in episode one, while also trying to find an acting job, and deal with all of these crazy calls he's been receiving.

Luc is such a gentlemen and I love that he has such a high respect for women. I wish there were more books with men like that in them! I tore through this episode in no time. I loved the writing style and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen between Luc and Serena. Sadly I did not get to see that in this episode. Although I seemed to enjoy this writing style a bit more than the first I was a little disappointed that this episode was even shorter and the story really didn't progress all that much. I did feel like the humor and fun was definitely there though and the story was great I just wish there was more. More not only in the length of the story but more progress in the story as well. With that said I really did enjoy it though and cannot wait to get to read the next one! Bring Luc on! Hmm I mean bring it on! ;-)

Review: Lots of Knock-Knock Jokes for Kids

My daughter absolutely loves knock knock jokes. So of course I knew she would love this book and I was right. She immediately started telling me a ton of silly jokes from the books pages and sometimes couldn't stop laughing enough to get the whole joke out. She thought they were very funny and really clever. I loved seeing her smile so big and hearing her wonderful laugh while going through this book together. It is easy for young readers to read and comprehend and the jokes are good for children grades 2-5 to enjoy. I really liked that the jokes were not crude or vulgar ( you'd be surprised how many kids joke books include those things ) but clean and fun. It was also neat that they had the jokes divided into a few different types and that there were some bonus riddles and Q&A jokes included as well. I know we will continue to enjoy reading this book for quite sometime and am really happy that we came across it.

Sensitive and sexy Frenchman, Luc Du’mont, is living the American dream. He’s spent the last four years at university on an acting scholarship. Now, with graduation behind him, he’s ready to make his big Hollywood splash.

My Review:

French Kiss For Hire Episode One is the first installment in a multi-author set of serials that I can't wait to finish! This first installment was just enough to whet my appetite and now I'm ravenous for more! I think it is so fun that each episode is wrote by a different author!

Luc is so dreamy with a french accent and described as looking like Channing Tatum ( Yes, Please! ). But he is also a gentlemen. It is rare to find gentlemen in today's literature and especially one who is the main love interest and also described as being sexy. I love that about this story and it breaking the typical alpha male role. Although the story was short and light hearted it did a tremendous job at getting me to really connect with Luc and feel like I already care about him and his life. I didn't really get much chance to connect to the other characters just yet but I like what has been set forth so far and cannot wait to get to know them better. Plus I want to read more about this handsome frenchman with such great kissing skills ;-) . This would be perfect for when you need a quick romantic read and I hope you'll pick it up soon and help me root for Serena to dump that jerky boyfriend soon!

review of The ICB, Princess Bible, Hardcover, Purple International Children's Bible

ICB, Princess Bible, Hardcover, PurpleInternational Children's Bible

When I saw this bible I knew instantly that I wanted to get it for my daughter! :-)

The Princess Bible is not only very lovely with it's appealing purple/pink cover and faux pearl/glitter finishes but also a hardcover ( a must for most children ) and written on a third grade reading level. I know my daughter has expressed interest in reading the bible by herself but at times would have a hard time because of the hard to understand wording. I feel like the ICB Princess Bible will help her to be able to read more on her own and to understand what she is reading. She was very excited upon seeing the beautiful cover and immediately started checking out the inside features. She really liked all the bible help pages with titles like Bible Verses to Know and How Do I Pray. It was easy to find these pages since they were made a little thicker and sleeker than the paper pages and had the purple glittery border. The key verse highlights and concordance were also a couple of wonderful features worth mentioning. She started reading from her new bible to us and seemed to really enjoy herself. She kept showing me all the "cool " things she was finding like maps and such and told me how much she loved her new bible. Overall I don't think we could be any more pleased with this ICB version Princess Bible and am very glad that I came across it. I will be sure to recommend this bible to anyone who knows a little girl who would enjoy reading this beautiful bible while getting to know God's word. Love it!
